Christopher Hitchens on Jerry Falwell (by tylerthepirate)
I didn’t agree with Hitchens on everything, maybe not even most things (I also don’t happen to be an atheist), but he was a mighty rhetorician and ultimately was often on, for lack of a better term, on the side of the angels. As you can tell from this video, sometimes we need people like him. He will be missed.
Dude could be a breath of fresh air. This clip’s a prime example of how Hitchens could both cut to the quick and bleed his subject dry with papercuts. I don’t agree with his rigid position on faith or his easy dismissal here of Falwell’s religious sincerity, though. I always think of faith as a complex emotion like anger or love—things that are basically impervious to dry logic and cynicism.
